Letter from FckHm

Good evening, Editor. I'm sorry to disturb you at such a late hour, but I'm a little frazzled. It may be due to the fact that I forgot to take my medicine last night, but regardless, I'm frazzled. Why? Well, simply because somebody known to me as "Dad" is aggravating the hell out of me. This is going to be a ranty letter, so be ready.

Okay, so tonight was the softball scrimmage with the Old Lady Diamonds versus the New Lady Diamonds. It was fun, really. That's not the point, though. Afterward, we went to Applebee's. (It's kind of a tradition.) During that time, Dad decides to randomly pop out and say "Chase, you need to shave." I really don't know why this put me off the edge, but it did. I didn't say anything to him; I simply ignored the comment and went on with my conversation with my mother.

See, it's just this thing with him. He has to point out anything and everything I do wrong. He criticizes my every move. Half of it is being a father and looking out for me, I know that. I really do. But he's an ass about it. for instance, I want to be a teacher. However, my dad doesn't like that idea because he doesn't want me to zero in on one career. He wants me to have options. But really, what the hell is wrong with knowing exactly what you want to do? I don't care that you want me to be a engineer. I don't care about the "potential" I have. I want to be a teacher, so I would appreciate it if you would shut the fuck up and let me live my goddamn life!

It's not only that. If you remember from my last letter, I told you how he "punished" me. I have to be home before dark. SERIOUSLY!? How old am I? Twelve? I'm seventeen years old. Might I add, I will be eighteen in about a week. There's no reason for me to be punished. Sorry, father, but I'm a big boy now. I'm sick of you telling me what to do.

On the way home from Applebee's, I thought out what I would say if I were ever to go off on my dad. It was pretty harsh, what was happening in my head. I'm just honestly sick of him. He's always tried to push me to be who he wants me to be. I don't care what he wants. My life is not about pleasing his sorry ass anymore. I'm done with that. I know what I want to do. He may think I'm like him, but I'm not. I'm an adult now and I am going to do what I want. I'm not him, I'm me. My own person, my own personality. And I have different tastes than he does. What's next? If I buy a shirt he doesn't like, will he tell me not to wear it? Fuck that. I need to stand up for myself and tell him that I'm not taking his shit anymore. I'm sick of bowing down to his needs.

Anyway, sorry about that. I just really needed to rant about that. I'm just so tense right now. Maybe a hot bath? Eh, we'll see. Thank you for just listening Editor. Even though you don't say much, just the fact that you listen makes me feel a whole lot better.

Sincerely,

FckHm

Letter from rdy2mngl

Hey there, Editor. So this letter isn't going to cover as much ground as usual letters, but it will go into greater detail and ranting. So yesterday was quite an eventful day. First off, I went to Jessica's graduation party. I was like one of the few white people there. But hey, that's New Orleans. The food was fantastic, too! Well the time came during the night for friends and family to say a few words. Well, one of Jessica's little cousins (I think) sang a song for her. She's ten years old. I have never seen so much talent in someone so young. I almost cried. It makes me really happy too see the youth taking advantage of the time they have and investing it in discovering their God given talents.

Anyway, after I left the party, I went to meet up with people at Alexis' house. We all got in two cars and left for the Frat House. This was where the Dominican graduation party was being held. The people at the door were being serious assholes, though. Like, I borrowed Lance's ID to get in, but it had two holes in it. So the guy wasn't sure if he was going to accept it. He just asked me to stand on the side and wait, so I did. Eventually, another guy came over and looked at the ID and was like "This doesn't look like you." So I'm thinking, "Shit, I'm going to have to leave and figure out what the hell my friends are going to do for a ride home." Well, eventually they were just like "Fuck it" and let me in. Thank god!

Once I was in, I really wasn't enjoying myself. I mean, I went to another bar a few days earlier and I really enjoyed myself. But this place was different. It was more crowded and kind of like a dance club. To say the least, it was SO eastbank. For like two hours, I was just standing by my friends while they danced it up. I could literally feel the westbank side of me oozing out of my pores. I felt so out of place. Finally, after a few drinks, I began to loosen up and dance a little. After a few more drinks, I started seriously dancing. The weird part about being at this place, though, is that I saw people that I hadn't seen in years. And not just the fact that I hadn't seen them in a while, but I grew up with these people. It was quite interesting. So when they saw me, they were like "CHAASEE!!" It was pretty funny.

So we stayed at the Frat House for a good 5 hours. I drank probably way too much. OH! I forgot to tell you. My sister showed up there too. Talk about awkward. I feel like she was keeping an eye on me the whole night. But I mean, she was taking care of me in a way. I love her. So anyway, we got back to Alexis' house and kinda chilled there for like 5 minutes. I found out that her new boy, Jonathan, is a type 1 diabetic. I feel like I know the kid now since my brother is a type 1 diabetic. Of course, that's not a legit reason to know someone. Whatever. So I ended up driving home :\ . I got home fine though. Of course my parents were waiting up for me... I'll talk about that in the next paragraph.

Okay, so they were waiting up for me. They were pissed that I got home so late and that I was drinking. They could apparently tell. But really? I'm almost 18 and I'm about to go off to college. It's not like they will be able to control everything I do. They even took away my keys. Umm, I kind of need those. Especially since they want me to get a job and everything. Good luck with that guys. I mean, I know they're trying to look out for me and trying to teach me the dangers of drunk driving. And I really understand that. But the reason I do that is because they make it hard to tell them that I'm drinking in the first place. I don't want them to think poorly of me, but I'm a high school graduate, damnit. I will drink. It's that simple. My sister starting going out to clubs in her sophomore year. It's due time that I have some damn fun. I'm sick of them treating me like a baby. I know I have a lot to learn, but they need to get over that fact that I am a typical teenaged boy. I'm honestly just sick of them.

Oh, and did I mention? I'm single. This time I think it's final. I think the reason we got back together was because it was difficult seeing her everyday without being together. But now that it's summer, I realize that. And I'm ready to be single and try new things. I want to accept myself as being a bisexual male. And I'm done hiding that. I honestly don't care who knows because it's nothing to hide. It's who I am and I'm absolutely proud of it. I'm ready for whatever the world has for me and I will approach it in a positive way. I'm ready. Bring it on, world.

So, Editor. Those last few paragraphs were a bit ranty. But hey, that's kind of my thing. I hope you enjoyed this letter as much as I enjoyed last night. Write you again soon. Thanks for listening.

Sincerely,

rdy2mngl

Letter from thegraduate

Okay, so it is due time for me to write another letter. Let's update with what happened throughout the week, shall we?

Well, on Monday, I went to work on the yearbook at school, then went to have some coffee with friends. Marissa came in town for a few days and we got to spend a little time with her. It was really fun. I miss that group of friends a lot, actually. So, that night the same group (besides Marissa, who had to catch her flight back to LA) went over to Jesse's to play beer pong. Needless to say, we all got a little messed up. It was so much fun though. Everyone was pretty much being completely stupid. It's what we do.

So Tuesday was pretty uneventful, so I'll skip that. Wednesday, we had our final graduation practice. It took FOREVERRRR. The good part was, once it was over with, we all went over to my house for a swim party!! This was a lot of fun and was a huge success. Once people finished swimming, a few of the guys played a huge game of Brawl. Greatest thing ever. I'm not the only nerd! haha. So once the party was pretty much over, something absolutely amazing happened. MY NEW LAPTOP CAME IN! There was still like 3 people there to help me test it out. Mom and Dad decided to surprise me with the touchscreen feature. I feel like I have my own personal SmartBoard. So we left to go hang out in Timberlane, and the night just went on in a strange manner.

Thursday was the day. Graduation. Woke up at like 12. Left the house at 2. Well, needless to say it was a great ceremony. I ended up winning the "Sedes Sapientiae" Award. Which means "Seat of Wisdom." The greatest part about this award is the fact that it's not a plaque or anything. But it's a watch. Like a nice one, too. I'm excited because now I have something I can use, but it has a story behind it! Anyway, I'm glad to have finally graduated. Though I will miss De La Salle very much, it's time to move on for a while.

Well, that night was supposed to be the fun part of everything. Apparently, Tucks had organized to have a discount for all De La Salle graduates. And since it was Thirsty Thursday, that would have been like $.25 drinks. Well, once we got there, they started pulling out college back up on us. Even though they did it like every fifth person. They were simply being retarded. I give up on people. We tried to go to the Frat, but the line was ridiculous. Then back to Tucks to try again which didn't work. Eventually, we all ended up at McGuire's. I thoroughly enjoyed this, though some people were bitching about the kind of place it was. Which I didn't understand. I mean, we tried two other places and we couldn't get in, so just deal with what we can get. Make the best of what you have instead of lingering on the negative. I was perfectly content with sitting at a bar and having a few drinks. As far as I could see, there was nothing wrong with this place. Some people aggravate the hell out of me, but what can you do?

All in all, I thought the night went pretty well. Could have been better, since we ended up sleeping in my car. But I found it to be a good overall experience.

So, Editor, this concludes my letter. It's not my best work, I'll admit. I'm a little off my game today. But hey, some things just need to be done, eh?

Sincerely,

thegraduate

Letter from fnlydn

Okay, Editor, this was a busy week. So, this may be a lengthy letter. But here goes nothing.

Let's start off with Senior Exams. On Wednesday I had Civics and Religion, or as I like to call it: "Waste of time" and "Who cares?". It's really sad that I didn't study at all for these two exams. It's like, I wanted to care. I really did, but I just couldn't. This Senioritis thing became a huge obstacle in the end. The exams went generally well I think. After the exams, we had Graduation practice. It took the class like 40 minutes to line up and sit down in their seats. That's pathetic. I mean, I know we're not the most organized and functional class, but we should be able to handle something as simple as that. That people that made it difficult weren't the two girls in charge. It was the idiots that would try to take over and order everybody around in an unorganized fashion. These students being the apathetic jerks in and out of the classroom. So this was the most miserable hour and a half of my life. Plus our principal had to point it out when she made her way up there that we took longer than any other class. I was so relieved when we finally left.

Thursday I had my Theatre exam. This was a scene from The Tempest. Act II Scene ii. This was tough, considering it was my first time working with Shakespeare on stage. However, once we really dug into it and I understood the meaning of every line, I was able to truly enjoy myself. It's a funny scene, too. Anyway, the scene went moderately well considering a few dropped lines (not on my part, just saying). It was fun. We received a 96 for our performance. Not bad, I think. So after the exams we had a second Graduation practice. This time, everyone got to their seats and were quite before the tardy bell rang for the underclassmen's next period. Principal was impressed. This practice didn't take nearly as long, so I was quite happy about that.

Friday was Senior Day. We all met at the JCC pool for 10 AM. It was so pleasant. The weather was perfect. And, I got a ton of pictures. I didn't think I was going to swim, but I ended up getting in the pool. Everyone was getting along and being friendly. At around noon, we walked back over to the school yard to have some crawfish. They weren't fantastic, but they were still yummy. (Btw, the computer just said I spelled "crawfish" incorrectly. Apparently, Firefox was made in the north.) After that, we had some time to kill, so about ten of us went over to Johnny's house to chill. I LOVE his place. It's retro, but really nice and modern at the same time. I'm moving in with him. Period. End of story. :) So we got back to school around 2 for the Senior-Faculty basketball game. It was so much fun! Of course, we got beat by the faculty. That happens every year though. They cheat, but that's what makes it funny!

So today is Saturday. This morning we had the Senior Awards Breakfast. It was nice, at the Rose Garden. Nothing was really all that unexpected. I received the awards I assumed I would receive. There's nothing wrong with that, though. I am perfectly content with what was awarded and who it was awarded to. I didn't get as many pictures as I would have hoped, though :\. So tonight, I went on a long overdue date with my girlfriend, Tiffany. I picked her up, and we went to eat at Applebee's. We talked about our summer plans and how we would get a puppy. Even though we know that wont happen. After we finished eating, we went over to the theater to see Iron Man 2, which was pretty good. Even though this doesn't sound like a truly romantic evening, it was. I don't know why, but it was perfect. She's amazing. I love her so much and just being around her is enough for me. I don't ever want to let that go.

So, editor, I'm almost out of high school. No more class for me, but I have yet to graduate. By the way, graduation is next Thursday. I'm super excited. Thanks for listening to my play-by-play events of these past few days. Write to you later!

Sincerely,

fnlydn

Letter from chrctrbld

Okay, Editor, do you mind if I reference my last letter for a quick second? Thanks. Well, remember that paper that I was dreading? I finished! Yesterday, I spend an honest seven or eight hours working on it, but I finally finished it. Okay, so maybe it wasn't an "honest" seven or eight hours, since in that time I was watching Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, facebooking, twittering, formspringing, etc. So I may have been a little distracted. But the funny part is, it was generally easy to write. And the guy isn't even grading on content. He just checks that you covered three political parties, four issues for each party, and that it is in MLA format. Really? My dog could write that paper and get an A. If you're going to assign a term paper, at least grade it properly. Granted, my paper wasn't exactly a work of art. But that's because I know this guy doesn't give a shit. So there, that's my excuse. What's his?

Anyway, during my epic journey to a completed term paper, I came across lovely obstacles in my life brought to you by the wonderful world of Formspring. Cue dramatic music.. People these days seem to think it is perfectly fine to ask ridiculously inappropriate and overly personal questions just because it can be asked anonymously. It's like there's a voice in their heads saying "Haha, they won't know that it's me saying these things." Okay, there is truth to that statement. But does that justify your lack of character? I mean, websites such as formspring are meant to be peaceful and fun. I see many profiles that are fun to read and people ask great questions. But then there are some, such as my own, that are filled with questions and comments meant to upset the person.

Now, my usual reaction to such questions are simply to ignore them and not waste my time with such foolishness. However, I was bored and quite honestly, looking for something to distract me. So, I answered the questions in the way I thought would be best. For instance, someone asked why I didn't have any self respect. So, I told him/her that I actually did. My achievements have shown me what I am capable of and that, when I strive to be, I can really accomplish some things. Well, that turned into a bit of a fiasco. But I held my head high, and I tried to keep showing character.

Later in the night, another person wrote on the site and asked why I continued to answer those questions when I pride myself on being mature for my age. They said I shouldn't stoop to they're level. And then I realized how right that person is. If I pride myself on my character and how much I can overcome things, I shouldn't feed the fire. For a few hours, I feel like I was just looking for a chance to be bold and to hold strong. I gave that person their credit and thanked them for their input. That is the kind of thing I'm looking for on formpsring. People who either ask harmless questions, or people who are looking to better another person with their thoughts. That's a great person right there. Instead of lingering on the bad of another, try to better yourself and the people around you. That's how people can make a difference in the world. So, I tip my hat to you, formspringer. Thank you for your fantastic insight.

And so, Editor, I conclude today's letter saying only this: I am so thankful for those who test my character, and those looking to help better themselves and others. I think that's a good little piece of advice, don't you? Maybe you can put that in your column. I mean, though I am an amateur, I've got a little potential, you think?

Sincerely,

chrctrbld
